President Ruto Unveils New Fund to Empower 600,000 Single Mothers and Women

President William Ruto has announced plans to launch a new government fund targeting 600,000 single mothers and women across Kenya as part of efforts to boost economic empowerment. The initiative will seek to provide financial support and business training to help women become self-reliant and grow sustainable enterprises.

According to the Head of State, the government will work with both national and county governments to train women through specialized programmes aimed at equipping them with essential business and entrepreneurship skills. He noted that the initiative is part of the administration’s broader plan to promote inclusion and ensure women have equal access to economic opportunities.

The President explained that the new fund will complement the ongoing NYOTA programme, which focuses on uplifting vulnerable groups through training, mentorship, and access to financing. He emphasized that empowering single mothers and women is key to building stronger families and communities, as well as reducing poverty levels nationwide.

Ruto added that the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for women-led enterprises to thrive. The upcoming fund, he said, will not only provide capital but also mentorship and business linkages to ensure long-term sustainability for beneficiaries.

Further details on the fund’s rollout, including eligibility and application timelines, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
