Government Launches Nationwide ID Registration Campaign for School-Going Youth

In a bid to address delays in national identification among young citizens, the Ministry of Education has announced a nationwide initiative to register school-going children for identification documents. The campaign, led by Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, will take place during the ongoing second school term.

According to the directive, Regional and County Directors of Education have been tasked with ensuring that all secondary school principals facilitate the registration process.

To simplify and expedite the initiative, school principals or their deputies will act as identification agents for their students, taking over roles traditionally handled by National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs).

“This initiative will ensure a seamless transition for students completing secondary education,” PS Bitok noted. “By securing IDs early, students can avoid delays when enrolling in higher education institutions or entering the job market.”

The government anticipates registering thousands of students across the country during the campaign. This effort aligns with broader national goals to improve accessibility to essential services and documentation for the youth.

School administrators have expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing its potential to significantly reduce administrative hurdles for their students in the future.

This campaign marks a significant step towards streamlining identification processes and empowering the next generation of Kenyan citizens with the tools they need to succeed in their educational and professional journeys.
