Warrant Issued for Juja MP Koimburi Over Alleged Fake Abduction

The Milimani Law Courts today issued an arrest warrant against Juja MP George Koimburi after he failed to appear for arraignment over charges related to staging his own abduction. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that Koimburi and Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu skipped court proceedings despite being summoned.

Only four of the six accused individuals appeared in court, pleaded not guilty, and were each granted Ksh300,000 cash bail. The ODPP noted that the absence of Koimburi and Wairimu contravened Section 117(c) of the Penal Code, which criminalizes conspiracy to defeat justice.

Koimburi, along with six co-accused, allegedly faked his abduction on May 25, 2025, in what prosecutors claim was a move to avoid attending a scheduled court appearance in Kiambu, where he faced land fraud charges. The prosecution further stated that Koimburi gave false information to the public during a press conference, alleging he had been kidnapped and tortured.

His aide is also facing charges for falsely reporting the abduction to officers at Mugutha Police Station. According to ODPP findings, this false report triggered an unnecessary police operation based on fabricated claims.

Security agencies, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Amin Mohammed, later dismissed the abduction as staged. Mohammed described it as a calculated political stunt, stating investigations revealed glaring inconsistencies in the suspects’ accounts.

“It is inconceivable that a sitting MP would orchestrate such deception, inciting national anxiety,” the DCI chief said.

Koimburi now faces possible arrest and further legal consequences as authorities intensify efforts to bring him before the court.
