President William Ruto has joined the nation in mourning the victims of the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, expressing condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the incident.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the President said the country stands with the affected families during what he described as a painful and heartbreaking moment.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the families who have lost their beloved daughters in the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil,” President Ruto said.
The Head of State described the deaths as a major loss, noting that the country had lost young lives filled with hope and promise for the future.
“No words can truly ease the pain of losing young lives filled with promise, hope, and dreams for the future,” he stated.
Ruto said the government’s immediate focus remains on rescue operations, treatment of the injured students and support for affected families as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
The President further conveyed condolences to parents, guardians, teachers and fellow students affected by the tragedy, saying the entire nation was mourning alongside them.
“As a nation, we mourn with the parents, guardians, teachers, and fellow students who are enduring this unimaginable tragedy,” he added.
He also prayed for comfort and strength for grieving families during the difficult period.
