Motorists in Kenya will now receive traffic violation notices through an automated system after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) launched the Instant Fines Traffic Management System.
In a public notice, NTSA said the system is now operational and will automatically send traffic offence notifications to motorists through SMS where applicable. The authority noted that “the Instant Fines Traffic Management System is now live” and that “the system will automatically issue traffic violation notifications via SMS to motorists where applicable.”
According to the authority, the system runs without human intervention, a move aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and accountability in traffic enforcement. NTSA explained that “this process is fully automated and operates without human intervention, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability in traffic enforcement.”
Motorists who receive the fines will be required to pay them through the branch network of KCB Group within seven days. However, NTSA warned that failure to clear the fines within the required period will attract interest on the outstanding amount.
The authority also noted that drivers or vehicle owners with unpaid fines will not be able to access NTSA service platforms until the penalties are settled. It added that “the vehicle or the driver with pending fine will not be able to transact on NTSA service platforms until the fine is settled.”
NTSA has therefore advised motorists to follow all traffic rules and to respond quickly to official notifications sent through the system. The notice further urged drivers to “observe all traffic regulations and respond promptly to any official notifications received,” adding that more details will be shared through official government communication channels.
