Safaricom has expanded the responsibilities of a key finance executive. The telecommunications firm has appointed Caroline Wambugu to a broader leadership role covering finance controls, treasury, tax and investor relations.
Under the new appointment, Wambugu will serve as Group Lead for Finance Controls, Performance and Investor Relations. Her expanded mandate now includes oversight of financial controlling, reporting, treasury, tax, shared services and credit collections, while she retains responsibility for performance management and investor relations.
The move strengthens Wambugu’s influence in Safaricom’s finance function. The company continues to enhance its financial governance, reporting and investor engagement structures across its operations. This realignment signals a deliberate step toward tighter oversight. It strengthens accountability within the group.
The expanded role places her at the center of several critical financial operations across the group. She will coordinate planning, budgeting and reporting cycles. Her work will shape Safaricom’s engagement with investors and other external stakeholders. This positioning supports governance and cross‑functional collaboration.
Wambugu joined Safaricom in December 2021 as Head of Finance, Planning, Analysis and Investor Relations. Since then, she has been involved in driving financial planning, performance tracking and engagement with investors.
Before joining Safaricom, she served for nearly six years as Head of Finance Decision Support at Absa Bank Kenya. She also spent close to 13 years at NIC Bank Limited, now part of NCBA Group, building extensive experience in banking and financial management.
As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K), Wambugu brings approximately 24 years of professional experience.
She joins the expanded position as one of the most seasoned finance leaders within Safaricom’s executive structure.
