Man Trampled to Death by Elephants in Lolgorian

A 34-year-old man was tragically killed by elephants while heading home in Lolgorian, Trans Mara South Sub County.

Children on their way to school discovered the remains and alerted locals, prompting police to respond. Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed that Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers established the attack was caused by a herd of elephants from Nyakweri Forest.

“Body parts were found scattered at the scene and have been taken to Trans Mara West Sub County Hospital morgue for preservation and postmortem,” said Ngare.

In response, KWS officers and Mara Triangle conservancy staff have been deployed to contain the herd of 12 elephants.

This fatal attack follows another incident in Aitong, Narok West, where an 11-year-old girl was killed by elephants on her way to school just days ago.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano addressed residents over the weekend, reaffirming the government’s commitment to compensating victims of human-wildlife conflict. She highlighted ongoing efforts, including constructing additional water sources near Maasai Mara to reduce wildlife movement into settlements.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve hosts around 2,500 elephants, which often stray into villages, especially during dry seasons. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant while herding, farming, or collecting firewood in bushy areas to avoid wildlife encounters.
