Gachagua Announces New Political Party After UDA Exit

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that Central Kenya has officially severed political ties with President William Ruto and will not support his re-election bid in 2027. Speaking in a televised interview from his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua cited betrayal by Ruto, particularly following his impeachment last year, as the catalyst for the region’s shift in loyalty.

“From today, the people of Central Kenya have politically disengaged from President Ruto. We will not support him in 2027,” Gachagua declared.

He further revealed that the region is withdrawing from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking the end of its partnership with the ruling coalition. Gachagua emphasized that Central Kenya will rally behind a new political vehicle set to be launched in May.

“We are finished with UDA. Never again will we go to an election without our own political party. Last time, we attended the wedding in the groom’s car, but when we reached the river, he asked us to step out and gave others a ride,” he remarked.

Gachagua issued a stern warning to Mt. Kenya leaders who continue to back President Ruto despite his alleged betrayal. He vowed to lead a campaign against them, ensuring they face rejection at the ballot box in the next general elections.

“This region will vote out all leaders who prioritize their own interests over the community,” he stated. “Those who sell our people for their personal gain will never see leadership again in Mt. Kenya.”

Gachagua concluded by accusing certain regional leaders of supporting Ruto at rallies while he continues to disrespect and insult the Mt. Kenya community.
