Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has announced that he will not accompany President William Ruto on his upcoming development tour of the Mount Kenya region. Speaking after meeting Kikuyu elders on Saturday, March 22, Muturi explained that accompanying the President is not part of his duties unless the visit directly involves his ministry.
“I don’t just follow the President. Even during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, I never made it a habit to accompany him everywhere. As President, he had his own schedule, and I had mine as Speaker. It’s the same now,” Muturi stated.
Muturi, who has recently clashed with government officials over allegations of forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, emphasized that he would only attend presidential events relevant to his docket.
The embattled CS has skipped three cabinet meetings since January, fueling speculation about his position. However, he reiterated that he would not resign, noting that only President Ruto could determine his fate in cabinet.
“Staying or not staying in cabinet is the President’s prerogative. I’m well aware of my constitutional position, so whatever happens is up to him,” he told Citizen TV in a candid interview on March 12.
Muturi has also been vocal about alleged government involvement in abductions, particularly after naming senior officials linked to his son Leslie’s disappearance during the June Gen-Z protests. He has repeatedly urged the formation of a tribunal to investigate the matter.
“No one has denied my claims. A commission of inquiry would reveal the truth,” he insisted.
His demands for accountability continue to stir tension, as Muturi remains adamant that justice must be pursued.
