Call to Disbar Murkomen and Kindiki Over Protest Violence

A Nairobi-based lawyer, Kepha Ojijo, has filed a motion urging the removal of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki from the Roll of Advocates.

The motion, submitted to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Monday, accuses the two officials of gross misconduct during their tenure overseeing security operations.

Ojijo alleges that Murkomen and Kindiki played significant roles in state-led violence during protests in 2024 and 2025, popularly known as the Gen Z demonstrations. The demonstrations were marked by widespread unrest, during which police actions allegedly led to deaths, injuries, abductions, and enforced disappearances of young protesters.

By linking their conduct to violations of the Advocates’ Code of Conduct, Ojijo asserts that their actions undermine the principles of justice and accountability upheld by the legal profession.

The motion seeks disciplinary action against the two, arguing that their continued status as advocates tarnishes the integrity of Kenya’s legal system. This case could set a significant precedent in holding public officials accountable for their professional ethics.

The LSK has yet to comment on the matter, but the petition has sparked heated public and legal debate on the role of leaders in safeguarding civil liberties.
