Ruto can’t beat Linda Mwananchi movement in Nyanza, Sifuna says

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna declared that President William Ruto’s ruling coalition will fail to gain political traction against the opposition-aligned Linda Mwananchi movement in the strategic Luo Nyanza region ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking to supporters during a public mobilization tour across Western Kenya on July 21, 2026, Sifuna stated that grassroots opposition support across the region remains firmly unified against the government’s economic policies and taxation measures.

The political declaration comes as the coalition movement expands its nationwide rallies to consolidate opposition strongholds across the former Nyanza and Western provinces, positioning itself as the primary alternative voice against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Accompanied by key regional lawmakers, Sifuna emphasized that the political landscape in Nyanza has shifted permanently against the current government due to rising living costs and governance concerns.

“President Ruto must realize that no amount of political persuasion or state machinery can weaken the resolve of the people in Luo Nyanza, who are fully aligned with the Linda Mwananchi agenda,” Sifuna said.

Political analysts note that the movement’s aggressive grassroots campaign aims to ring-fence traditional opposition voting blocks while preparing for potential coalition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition has not officially responded to the statements, though government allies previously maintained that development projects initiated across Nyanza will secure voter support.
