Elected Members Of The 13TH Parliament Set To Begin Induction On Monday

According to a statement issued by the National Assembly of Kenya, elected Members of Parliament will undergo a one-week induction at the Safari Park Hotel starting tomorrow on Monday until Saturday 24th September, 2022.   

The 345 members which makes up the National Assembly (Upper House) are; 290 elected MPs from the sub-counties, 47 women elected from each of the 47 counties and 12 members nominated to represent women, youth and the marginalized groups.

The lawmakers will be briefed and educated on essential legislative matters, House procedures and their roles, the issues on economy, Diplomacy, Security matters, Budget Process and Public Finance, Formulation of Laws and the House standing orders revised by the former 12th Parliament are among the key subjects .

The process will be conducted by senior parliamentary officers and some of the facilitators will include; Chief Justice Martha Koome, Salaries and Remunaration Commission (SRC) Chairperson Boss Mengich and officials from Directorate of Legislative and Procedural Services.

“The induction of Members kicks off tomorrow and is scheduled to run through the week. The exercise which involves taking the legislators through the operations and procedures of the House, is geared towards equipping them with tools to effectively execute their mandate.” Read a statement from the National Assembly.
