Kenya Kwanza Leaders Set To Reveal Parliamentary leadership After Retreat In Naivasha

United Democratic Alliance retreat in Naivasha enters day two on Saturday where leaders have convened to strategize on the positions of both the National Assembly and Senate houses.

President William Ruto’s coalition is expected to announce the leaders designated for the positions of the majority leader, deputy majority leader, minority whip and deputy minority whip. With other seats being that of the committee heads of select and departmental committees in both houses.

Some of the leaders who have expressed interest in the above positions include, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa who was approved for the National Assembly Majority Leader and Gatundu South Member of Parliament Kagombe who is going for the Deputy Majority leader.

In a meeting chaired by the president accompanied by his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula among other leaders, Ruto yesterday on Friday mentioned that he is not going to appoint any opposition member in his government.

“We have accepted that we are not going to appoint any member of the opposition into government because we want a vibrant opposition, an apposition that will keep the government in check,” Ruto said.

Azimio-One Kenya Raila Odinga was also leading the coalition’s PG in Machakos County that also kicked off on Friday. With the team also strategizing on parliamentary leadership positions before both Houses hold their first sittings.

Raila said he will dismiss any plan taken by the Kenya Kwanza team and especially the speaker Moses Wetang’ula into terming One Kenya coalition as the minority group in the National Assembly, he said that Azimio has sufficient numbers to oversight the government on the floor of the House.
