A tragic twist has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of two women in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County, after it was revealed that one of the victims, Joy Mutisya, was married and had left her home under false pretenses.
According to investigators, Joy had told her husband that she was heading to Kitengela in search of work, but instead travelled to Kanyonyoo to meet a man alleged to be her boyfriend, a police constable now wanted in connection with the double murder.
On Sunday night, a heated altercation at a bar in Kanyonyoo Market ended in tragedy when the officer allegedly shot and killed Joy Mutisya and her friend Jane Ndanu. The suspect, believed to be Joy’s lover, fled the scene and remains at large.
The devastating incident has left families reeling. Joy, a middle-aged mother of two, was married to James Mutisya. The couple had two children, one in Form Three and the other in Grade Six. Her sudden death has left her husband and children in shock, struggling to comprehend the circumstances that led to the loss of a wife and mother.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, as both families prepare to lay their loved ones to rest. Meanwhile, police say investigations are ongoing and have assured the public that efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the conduct of law enforcement officers, with calls mounting for a speedy and transparent probe into the matter.
