Waititu Granted Leave from Prison

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been granted leave to amend his appeal which seeks for release on bail.

Waititu, who is currently serving a prison sentence following a conviction for a corruption offense, challenged his conviction before the High Court nearly two months ago.

Despite making efforts, the court denied Waititu’s initial appeal that it would be heard expeditiously.

However, the former Kiambu boss in a new application, claims he has gathered genuine evidences which he seeks to amend to his petition in support of his case.

The new application has been welcomed, offering Waititu a good chance to continue fighting to be released on bail.

In the ruling that was made earlier this year, Waititu was found guilty of conflict of interest in a Ksh.588 million graft case, with the court sentencing him to 12 years in imprisonment or pay Ksh. 52.5 million. He was also barred from vying for any political seat for a period of 7 years.
