The government has been urged to look into the alleged irregular payments of up to Sh15 billion, according to the United Democratic Alliance party.
Speaking on Wednesday, UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala stated that anti-graft institutions should act on the situation swiftly.
“The revelations made by the controller of the budget yesterday were really shocking, astonishing, incomprehensible, and just depressing,” Malala remarked.
“It is quite concerning that more than 15 billion Kenyan shillings were stolen in less than 26 minutes right before former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term ended. That these two so-called “handshake partners” were actually criminal collaborators is shocking.”
This comes after Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o disclosed that a senior treasury official had pressured her to approve billions of shs without the necessary paperwork. Nyakang’o claimed to have been under pressure from the official to sanction the payment of Sh15 billion for Telkom shares in front of a parliamentary committee.
Nyakang’o shared what she claimed to be text conversations between herself and the senior Treasury official pushing her to expedite the transaction in documents presented before the Parliamentary Public Petitions Committee on Tuesday.
