Ruku, Cheptumo Sworn In as Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto Appoints 14 New Principal Secretaries

NAIROBI – Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo were today officially sworn in at State House, Nairobi, as Cabinet Secretaries for Public Service and Gender, respectively. Their appointments follow President William Ruto’s recent mini cabinet reshuffle aimed at enhancing service delivery in key government sectors.

The duo now joins the Cabinet as the latest additions, replacing former Attorney General Justin Muturi in the Public Service docket. Muturi’s reassignment was part of broader changes initiated by the President to realign his administration.

Earlier this week, Ruku and Cheptumo faced vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, where they responded to tough questions concerning their leadership records and plans for their new roles.

In a separate development, President Ruto has named 14 new Principal Secretaries to serve in various ministries, further reinforcing his government’s commitment to efficiency and reform. This was announced in a gazette notice dated April 16, 2025.

Among the newly appointed Principal Secretaries are Dr. Jane Imbunya, Regina Akoth, Cyrell Wagunda, Dr. Caroline Karugu, and Dr. Fredrick Oluga Ouma. The list also includes Ahmed Ibrahim, Judith Pareno, Boniface Makokha, Prof. Shaukar Abdulrazak, Stephen Isaboke, Michel Lenasalon, Frikirini Kahindi, Carren Achieng, and Aden Millah.

The appointments are expected to bring renewed energy and expertise into the public sector, with a focus on performance, accountability, and effective service delivery. Analysts view these changes as part of President Ruto’s broader plan to strengthen governance and accelerate the implementation of his development agenda.
