Former nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Carren Atieno Muga was arrested on Saturday in connection with the violent events that led to the lynching of a suspect by an angry mob at the Chemase Police Station in Nandi County. The incident unfolded on January 3, when a mob stormed the police station, forcing out a murder suspect, before stoning, beheading, and burning his body.
In a shocking twist, the mob returned to the police post, vandalized it, and set it on fire, leaving three officers injured. Days later, Muga was apprehended along the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road. Authorities linked her to an organ-harvesting syndicate and revealed she is believed to be the mother of one of the prime suspects in the murder of 38-year-old Enock Kipsang. Muga was reportedly trying to flee out of fear of being targeted by angry locals. Her vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, was confiscated as evidence.
Kipsang was killed and dismembered, with his remains found scattered, including his head in a borehole and his private parts severed. The incident triggered outrage in Tinderet constituency, with over 3,000 locals gathering at the Chemase Police Station, demanding justice. Prior to his death, Victor Kimtai, the prime suspect, exposed the organ-harvesting syndicate and threatened to harm his own family, prompting authorities to arrest him.
Police also recovered Kenya Police Service flags stolen during the mob invasion. Investigations continue, with authorities closing in on other suspects linked to the crime. A recent meeting between Deputy Inspectors General Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli aimed to foster peace and security in the region.
