A new partnership between HACO Industries Kenya Limited and Nation Media Group PLC is set to transform how environmental education is delivered in Kenyan secondary schools. The collaboration brings together corporate sustainability expertise and media-driven learning platforms to nurture a generation of environmentally responsible young leaders.
Through the integration of HACO’s Green Learning Initiative and Nation Media Group’s Newspapers in Education (NiE) programme, students will gain access to structured environmental content alongside real-world sustainability experiences. The programme will begin in 15 pilot schools, where learners will participate in practical activities such as tree growing, recycling drives, waste audits, and eco-innovation challenges.
Student-led Green Guardian Clubs will serve as hubs for peer learning and community engagement, encouraging young people to take ownership of environmental stewardship within their schools.Nation Media Group will support the initiative by distributing newspapers and curated learning materials, while also spotlighting outstanding student projects through its platforms, including Daily Nation and Taifa Leo.
By amplifying youth voices, the partnership aims to celebrate environmental champions and inspire broader school participation nationwide.Beyond environmental awareness, the initiative places emphasis on mentorship, character development, and purpose-driven learning.
Teachers will receive support to integrate sustainability themes into classroom discussions, while students will be exposed to emerging green career pathways and responsible citizenship values.A joint steering committee will guide implementation and track impact through structured monitoring and evaluation.
With an initial one-year timeline, the programme is designed to scale based on measurable outcomes and stakeholder collaboration.By merging education, media, and corporate sustainability leadership, the partnership represents a forward-looking investment in Kenya’s future one that empowers young people not only to understand climate responsibility, but to actively shape a more resilient and environmentally conscious society.
