A report from Mbagathi County Hospital has raised questions surrounding the death of Albert Ojwang Omondi, who was brought in by police from a central police station. Omondi was brought to the hospital at 2:00 a.m. on June 8, 2025, unresponsive and declared dead on arrival.
According to the police officers accompanying the body, they suspected that Omondi had sustained self-inflicted injuries while in custody. However, an initial examination by hospital staff revealed significant injuries. The head and face were swollen, with blood reportedly oozing from the back of the head, mouth, and eyes. There were no signs of life or cardiac activity, confirming his status as deceased.
The report further indicates that there was no contact information for next of kin, and no phone details were available for Omondi. Hospital staff notified the police and handed over the body to be transported to the Kenyatta Police Station for documentation before transfer to a mortuary.
This incident has prompted questions from observers about the circumstances under which the injuries occurred, given the severity of the trauma reported by medical professionals. Police investigations are expected to clarify the events leading to Omondi’s death.
When contacted, hospital representatives declined to provide further comments, referring to the official report issued by the nurses on duty, Irene Misiko and Justus Abok.
