Early Morning Fire Razes Businesses at Limuru Bus Park

A raging fire at Limuru Bus Park in the early hours of Thursday, March 13, has left traders counting massive losses, with property worth millions reduced to ashes.

According to authorities, the inferno broke out at around 5:00 AM, allegedly originating from a hotel within the park. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, and no injuries have been reported. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown.

Preliminary reports indicate that more than ten business establishments, mostly made of aluminium, were completely destroyed. The affected businesses included food stalls, kiosks, and small retail shops, which are vital for the livelihoods of many traders.

Limuru Bus Park is a major economic hub, hosting hundreds of businesses and also serving as a key public transportation terminal. A section of the park is designated for matatus, making it a crucial part of the town’s infrastructure.

As of the time of this report, neither the Kiambu County Government nor law enforcement agencies had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This devastating fire comes just days after another similar blaze engulfed part of the Mamboleo market in Kisumu on Sunday, March 9. The Kisumu fire, which reportedly started at a food joint around 9:00 PM, spread rapidly, destroying an unconfirmed amount of property before local authorities and business owners managed to contain it.

The back-to-back incidents raise concerns about fire safety measures in key business centers, with traders calling for better preparedness to prevent future losses.
