Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was mandated on Tuesday September 27 to be responsible of the public sector reforms and other roles as he may be assigned by the President from time to time.
Upon appointing the cabinet, President William Ruto defined the roles of his Deputy, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the cabinet appointees.
Apart from deputizing for the President in the execution of the President’s function, the Deputy President was mandated to co-ordinate Inter-Governmental relations between the National Government and County Governments including chairing the Inter-Governmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).
Rigathi is also to work with Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices in matters that requires interventions by the National Government including budgets, policy formulation and implementation of their recommendations.
Lastly, the DP will chair Cabinet meetings and committees as well as oversee implementations of cabinet decisions across all ministries and State-Departments.
