CJ Koome Preside Over Justin Muturi’s Oath-Taking As JSC Commissioner

Justin Muturi, the attorney general, was sworn in as a member of the Judicial Service Commission under the direction of Chief Justice Martha Koome (JSC).

The occasion took place on Tuesday, November 1, at the Nairobi Supreme Court complex in Kenya. As stated in Article 172 of the Constitution, “The Attorney General Justin Muturi joins the Commissioners of JSC in our collaborative pursuit of the imperatives of safeguarding the independence and accountability of the Judiciary,” Koome remarked.

Kihara Kariuki is succeeded by the AG at JSC. Under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s previous administration, Kariuki held the position of AG.”As a Commission, our major responsibility is to ensure that our courts and judges are better equipped to carry out these tasks and that they are also held accountable in the performance of their roles,” he said.

Koome, for her part, stated that as a former Speaker of the National Assembly and Magistrate, he will be a key team player in JSC and will act as a liaison between the Commission and the Executive. “You join the JSC just as the Commission recently launched and began implementing its Strategic Plan 2022-2027 to provide strategic guidance in the quest to realize the Commission’s vision of being ‘A Commission of excellence in promoting an independent, transparent, and accountable Judiciary,'” she said.

The Attorney General (AG) serves as the government’s chief legal counsel. “Earlier today, I went on a familiarization tour of the Attorney General’s offices at Sheria House,” Muturi explained. Muturi stated on his official Twitter account on Tuesday, October 18, that he engaged with the workers at the State Law Office during his tour.
