The Supreme Court’s Children’s Service Week has begun, according to Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The National Council on Administrative Justice requested the Children’s Service Week last year. CJ Koome, the council’s chairperson, gave the order for this. The week is devoted to resolving children’s matters within the nation’s judicial system. Since children are among the most vulnerable people in the nation, Koome has stated that she is very dedicated about protecting their rights.
“You may hold me personally accountable for anything that occurs to children in the Judicial system since I have urged courts to prioritize matters involving children,” she stated on Thursday.
During this week, she said, courts in all jurisdictions are required to investigate all pending cases of children who have had contact or dispute with the law in the last six months. She stated that the backlog of children’s cases should be prioritized.
“Last year during service week, we were able to address 1,800 children’s problems and assist them get back to where they belong, at home, not in the system,” Koome stated.
