Azimio Senators Once More Reject CSs Questioning

Senators from Azimio have abstained from the grilling of cabinet secretaries for the second time in a row.

The legitimacy of the ministers’ attendance in the chamber has been contested by the minority party.

On Wednesday, the opposition wing’s seats were vacant as CSs answered questions from the MPs on the house floor. The only opposition politician present in the House for the morning sitting was Senator Agnes Kavindu (Wiper) of Machakos.

Enoch Wambua (Wiper), the deputy minority leader, entered the room but shortly left. Minority Smack Ledama The appearances of CSs were deemed unconstitutional by Ole Kina. It completely violates the Kenyan Constitution’s basic structure doctrine. Using Standing Orders, amending Article 153-3 of the Kenyan Constitution. Absolute nonsense,” he remarked.

Senators who support the opposition might not be present, which would prevent their constituents from asking important ministry questions.

Additionally, when CSs appeared before the house last week, the Azimio senator skipped the opening question period. They stated that they won’t go to the meetings until the outcome of a legal challenge they filed to the CSs’ presence is known.

“We’ve brought a lawsuit contesting the legality of the appearances. We won’t decide how to continue until after the hearing and verdict on our case, Wambua said to the Star last week.

To enable the CSs to respond to questions on the floor of the House, the Kenya Kwanza senators pushed through changes to the house rules (standing orders) in March.

The government wing, however, was accused by the opposition senators of trying to change the constitution through standing orders.
