Abdikadir Hussein’s election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Lagdera on August 9, 2022, has been declared invalid by the High Court.
Hussein defeated Abdiqani Zeitun of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with 5,939 votes on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party’s ballot. With 3,277 votes, Kenya African Union (KANU) Party candidate Mohamed Hire finished third.
Abdiqani, the first runner-up, brought a lawsuit before the Supreme Court to contest Hussein’s victory and allege electoral fraud.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will choose the date for the re-election after the High Court’s decision on Friday, March 3, which found elements of irregularities in the parliamentary election (IEBC).
