Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has finally named 31 applicants for chief officer positions after a protracted search.
Speaker of the County Assembly Mohamed Roba received the names.
In a letter to Roba, it was stated, “After the suggestion of County Public Service Board, I hereby nominate the following candidates as county chief officers and transmit their names for vetting and subsequent confirmation.
Governor Guyo said that he believes the list represents inclusivity, clan and tribe balance, gender and professionalism He made the remarks after releasing the names of successful chief officers. Once the names are tabled at the assembly, the Speaker will present the names for vetting before the appointment committee. County chief officers are authorised to delegate power and are answerable to the county executive committee member in their respective dockets.
Their primary responsibilities include overseeing daily departmental operations and providing strategic policy direction for efficient service delivery within the departments to which they are assigned.
They also carry out programs and policies inside such departments. Chief officers are comparable to permanent secretaries, whereas county executive committee members are comparable to Cabinet secretaries in the national government.
The county chief officer has the authority to assign a county public officer to a department.
