Police in Trans Nzoia County have detained a lady for reportedly having an abortion and abandoning the fetus in a pit latrine.
During the incident in Kapkarwa village, Trans Nzoia East sub-county, police intervened quickly to defend the 21-year-old suspect from furious neighbors who planned to attack her. The woman’s husband stated in a report filed at Kachibora Police Station that his wife was expecting and due to deliver when she reportedly aborted and dumped the foetus in a pit toilet.
“My wife became enraged when I asked about the pregnancy and angrily said she had no idea what had transpired. I made the decision to go to bed,” the man said to authorities.
The man claimed that he was awakened by the yells of neighborhood neighbors who intended to treat his wife unfairly by the crowd. Threats from the mob forced the suspect to admit that the eight-month pregnancy had been aborted.
The body was taken to the Kitale County morgue. The defendant will soon be arraigned, according to Francis Kihara, an officer with Trans Nzoia County Criminal Investigation.
