Wanga Urges Calm and Accountability After Violent Clashes Rock Kasipul By-Election

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga has issued a strong statement condemning the rising cases of political violence in Kasipul Constituency, following a brutal attack on a peaceful voter engagement meeting led by aspirant Boyd Were.

The assault, which left several people injured and resulted in the destruction of property and loss of lives, has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving residents living in fear.Wanga described the incident as unacceptable and a direct attack on the democratic principles that Kenyans have fought to uphold.

She urged security agencies to act with urgency and impartiality in investigating the matter and ensuring that those responsible — including the masterminds and financiers — are brought to justice. According to Wanga, the violence witnessed in Kasipul undermines not only the credibility of the by-election process but also the confidence of citizens in the country’s democratic institutions.She further appealed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that the Kasipul by-election is conducted under conditions of fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all candidates.

Wanga stressed the importance of creating a level political playing field where all aspirants can engage freely with voters without intimidation or interference.The ODM chairperson also called on leaders across the political divide to exercise restraint and preach peace, emphasizing that no political ambition should be pursued through bloodshed or chaos. She reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to peaceful campaigns and urged residents of Kasipul to reject violence, remain calm, and allow the rule of law to prevail as investigations continue.
