Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on opposition political parties in Kenya to consolidate their support and field a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a series of political engagements ahead of an upcoming tour, the former deputy president insisted that a unified front remains the most viable strategy to defeat the current administration. Gachagua asserted that he holds no intention of dissolving existing political parties, emphasizing that every entity retains the freedom to promote its manifesto to the electorate.
“I have not asked for the dissolution of any political party; every party is free to endear its manifesto to the people,” Gachagua said.
Addressing his role within the broader political landscape, Gachagua declared his readiness to contest the top seat while maintaining his commitment to coalition building. He reiterated that the primary goal of the opposition must remain aligned on democratic reform and economic recovery.
“I am the unifying factor in the united opposition,” Gachagua stated, adding that opposition leaders must work together to present a credible alternative to the ruling coalition.
The remarks follow mounting realignments across Kenya’s political divide as key figures prepare for the 2027 polls.
