University Student Tortured to Death, Seven Suspects in Custody

HOMA BAY, Kenya – Police in Homa Bay County have arrested seven individuals in connection with the death of a fourth-year student from Tom Mboya University.

The arrests were made on Friday, December 21, after officers responded to an alert about a student being tortured at a local restaurant. Upon arrival, the police discovered the student tied with ropes on his hands and legs and bearing severe head injuries.

According to a police report, the student was found restrained to a metal bar, bleeding profusely, and showing clear signs of a brutal assault. He was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The incident was reported by the Homa Bay County Enforcement Officer, who informed the police of the torture. Following the student’s death, the police arrested seven employees of the restaurant believed to have been involved. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

This tragic event comes just two months after another shocking murder of a university student. On September 28, a University of Nairobi student was found dead in a thicket in Mwiki, Nairobi. The 20-year-old Chiromo Campus student was discovered half-naked with severe head and limb injuries.

Investigations revealed she may have been lured from her Pipeline residence before being murdered. Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are still probing the case.

These incidents have raised concerns about student safety in the country, with calls for stricter measures to protect learners from such violent crimes.
