Family Appeals for Help as Influencer Peter Muteti Allegedly Abducted in Nairobi

The family of 22-year-old Peter Muteti, a social media influencer with a significant following on X, is pleading for assistance after his alleged abduction outside his Uthiru apartment in Nairobi on Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, Muteti was forcibly taken into a vehicle, registration number KCF 035M, by four armed men, one reportedly in police uniform, at around 9 a.m. His phone was switched off shortly after the incident, and efforts to contact him have been unsuccessful.

Muteti’s girlfriend, Mary Wambui, said he had been living in fear after receiving threats on X following a Thursday post featuring President William Ruto, which he later deleted. “Friday morning, he saw suspicious men and deleted the post because he was scared,” Wambui said.

The family reported the incident to Kabete Police Station and urged authorities to review CCTV footage from the apartment and a nearby supermarket where the abduction reportedly occurred.

Christine Kendi, Muteti’s cousin, called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and police to provide answers. “If he’s done wrong, let him face due process. He shouldn’t be hidden,” Kendi said.

Muteti’s brother, Kelvin Njeru, expressed concern over the involvement of uniformed personnel, saying, “An officer in uniform was among the abductors. Despite reporting, the police claim they don’t know his whereabouts.”

The abduction has sparked public outrage online, with Kenyans demanding his immediate release and raising concerns over rising enforced disappearances.

Kabete detectives have launched investigations, but the family remains in the dark about Muteti’s fate.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about accountability and the safety of vocal social media users.
