The High Court Extends Kawira Mwangaza Stay In Office

Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has been handed good news after a high court judge has extended his stay in office.

A ruling that was made by high court judge Bahati Mwamuye will now allow Mwangaza to stay in office for another 120 days and be free from impeachment. Mwamuye cited that the leadership vacuum that could be created could cripple the county government activities.

Mwamuye, in her judgement, said, “I shall in this ruling confirm and extend the interim (conservatory) orders for a period of 120 days from the date hereof, and in that time, the petitioner shall continue to serve as the governor of Meru County with a provision that a judgement in this matter may be rendered before the lapse of those 120 days on the date hereof,” the judge said.

Mwangaza was impeached on August 21, and the Senate upheld the impeachment due to gross misconduct and abuse of office. There has been a lot of bad blood between the governor and the county assembly of Meru since she was elected into office.
