Teachers Union Issue Demands to Government Before National Exams Kick Off Countrywide

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials from Samburu County have issued fresh demands to the national government, needing reassurance on their security during the national exam period.

Addressing the press on Monday 21, the KNUT chair in Samburu Patrick Karinga asked the government to provide adequate security to both students and examiners given the fact that the area is banditry infested.

With the KCSE exams, slated to kick off early on Tuesday next week and KPSEA on 28th October, the Union’s chair urged the government to put in place adverse measures that ensures good security over the exam period, a matter that was emphasized by secretary general for KNUT in Samburu County Richard Lentaya stated that such attacks affect the smooth execution of the national exams in that region.

“We are going for supervision of exams from next week and they are very much concerned with their security. What we are saying is we are calling on the government to give our teachers enough security during the time of writing this exercise which is so critical to our school-going children,” Karinga said.

He further asked the government to also address the issue concerning late payment of the examiners, insisting that they would not want a recurrence of the issue this time.
