Several Injured After Guardian Bus Accident Along Kaplong Road

Several passengers were injured on Sunday morning after a Guardian Angel bus headed for Kisii veered off the road along Kaplong Road. The bus, en route to Nyamarambe with 33 passengers from Nairobi, lost control after the driver swerved to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming lorry.

In an attempt to avert disaster, the driver lost control, causing the bus to skid and plunge into a ditch. Although no fatalities were reported, several passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to St Clare Nursing Home. Those in critical condition were later transferred to Tenwek Hospital in Bomet County for specialized treatment.

Passengers with minor injuries remained at the scene, awaiting alternative transportation provided by the bus company to continue their journey. Images from the accident scene at Nyambare show the bus overturned beside the road, highlighting the severity of the crash.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying moments leading to the accident, praising the driver’s quick reflexes, which likely prevented a more catastrophic outcome.

The Kaplong–Nyamarambe stretch has long been notorious for accidents. In November 2022, another Guardian bus crashed into a river in the same area after losing control.

Just weeks ago, on April 5, a deadly accident claimed at least 13 lives along the Sotik-Kericho Highway in Bomet County. That collision, involving a private car, a 14-seater matatu, and a truck, left 11 others seriously injured.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution along these roads, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to curb the rising number of accidents.

As investigations into Sunday’s crash continue, the Guardian bus company has assured affected passengers of support and assistance during recovery.
