Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has called for the immediate resignation and arrest of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director, Mohammed Amin, following damning revelations surrounding the death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang.
In a statement issued on Sunday morning, Omtatah, also a 2027 presidential hopeful, accused Amin of misleading the nation after CCTV footage aired by Citizen TV showed that Ojwang was already at Mbagathi Hospital at 1:35am on June 7 — contradicting earlier DCI claims that he was still in custody at the Central Police Station.
“At 1:35am, CCTV footage confirmed that Ojwang was already dead at Mbagathi Hospital, yet DCI Boss Amin claimed he was in a police cell. That’s a blatant lie, and it cannot go unpunished,” Omtatah stated.
The Senator termed the incident a deliberate cover-up involving fake Occurrence Book entries, falsified medical reports, and the alleged deletion of key CCTV footage from the police station. “This is not just incompetence — it’s a premeditated killing. We demand the arrest of all officers involved and the resignation of Amin,” he added.
Omtatah also questioned the silence from senior police officials and asked how many more lives would be lost before institutional reforms are undertaken. He said Kenyans are not pleading but demanding justice.
The controversy intensified after it was revealed that a technician, who installed 25 surveillance cameras and a digital video recorder at the police station in 2024, was arrested for allegedly deleting critical footage on June 8.
Ojwang’s death continues to draw national outrage, with growing calls for accountability from the highest ranks of the police service.
