President William Ruto, speaking in Nyamira County on Monday, April 13, 2026, dismissed opposition leaders as “clueless” and declared his confidence in a 2027 re-election victory driven by his development record. Addressing a crowd in the home region of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, the President challenged his rivals to present a credible alternative agenda rather than fixating on removing him from power
The visit to the Gusii region, traditionally a political swing zone, saw the President launch several multi-billion shilling projects. During the tour, he took a swipe at opposition figures who have recently rallied behind Matiang’i, asserting that none of them currently match his political stature or track record of delivery. He specifically questioned the contribution of his critics to local development, asking residents if those who oppose him had built any classrooms or roads in the region.
The people of Kenya did not elect us to trade insults; they elected us to work,” President Ruto stated during the commissioning of the Nyamira University College. “Our plan for 2027 is simple: we will show Kenyans the markets we have built, the hospitals we have equipped, and the youth we have employed. The opposition is busy with ‘Ruto must go’ chants because they have no vision for this country.
