Rigathi Gachagua Links Government to Foiled Assassination Scheme

Nairobi – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive allegations against the Kenya Kwanza government, claiming a state-sponsored plot to assassinate him. Speaking from his Karen residence, Gachagua alleged that high-level instructions were issued to eliminate him during a church service in Gatanga, Murang’a County, on Sunday, May 18.

“While attending the service, I received intelligence that there were orders to have me dealt with once and for all,” Gachagua stated, suggesting the use of “biological weapons” meant to slowly impair his mental health over three months.

According to Gachagua, the alleged plot involved failed attempts by hired goons, prompting direct police intervention. He claimed patriotic officers tipped him off about a plan to plant weapons in his convoy, creating grounds for arrest and prosecution. “The mission was to fabricate charges by planting arms and framing us,” he said.

Later that evening, police officers from multiple units reportedly surrounded Gachagua’s residences in Karen and Wamunyoro, raising alarms among allies. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru confirmed the presence of security forces and warned of a potentially unlawful operation.

Gachagua revealed he rerouted his journey to Karen to avoid a security standoff that could have left him exposed. He said this was a strategic move to prevent the disarming of his personal security detail.

The claims come amid rising political tensions after Gachagua warned of possible unrest during the 2027 elections if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) fails to deliver credible results. He defended his remarks as a call for accountability based on Kenya’s electoral history, not incitement.

The government is yet to respond to the serious allegations raised by the former Deputy President.
