Gov’t Spokesperson Denies Gachagua’s Poison Plot Claims as Political Smear

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has firmly denied allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed there was a government plot to poison him using chemical weapons.

Speaking during an interview on TV47 on Monday, May 19, Mwaura described the accusations as “outrageous,” “inciteful,” and a political ploy meant to stir public emotions and gain traction for Gachagua’s newly launched political party.

“These are just smear allegations aimed at hoodwinking Kenyans,” said Mwaura. “The government has no interest in harming any citizen. Our focus remains on protecting all Kenyans, regardless of their political standing.”

Gachagua had earlier claimed he received intelligence suggesting that top government security agencies had been instructed to eliminate him due to his growing criticism of President William Ruto’s administration. He also alleged a plot to plant weapons in his convoy to frame him.

Mwaura dismissed the claims as baseless, asserting that the administration remains committed to upholding law and order. He warned that only individuals engaged in corruption or incitement would face legal consequences.

“The government will only act if someone is corrupt, inciting the public, or making inflammatory statements for political gain,” Mwaura said.

He also questioned the timing of Gachagua’s remarks, linking them to recent efforts to rally support around his new party.

Gachagua made the explosive claims during a church service in Gatanga, Murang’a County on Sunday, May 18. His remarks have since sparked widespread public debate and concern.

Mwaura urged Kenyans to dismiss the statements and remain vigilant against divisive politics.
