Reuben Kagame Warns The Church Against Idolizing politicians

Evangelist and former Presidential aspirant Reuben Kagame has cautioned Kenyan churches against idolizing politicians both in in the government and the opposition.

In a statement dated April 2, 2023, the evangelist said that the church is hiding under “thanksgiving, homecoming services and fundraisers” to provide a platform for politicians to incite Kenyans against one another, saying that such meetings only end up being arenas for politicians to throw shades, profile and label one another.

“I plead with the Church in Kenya to immediately stop the idolization of government officers and Opposition leaders. How do you allow politicians to set Kenyans against each other and spew hatemongering in the name of thanksgiving, homecoming services and fundraisers? Fear God,” Kigame stated.

The current regime has taken after late President Daniel arap Moi’s character, who used to attend churches and make huge donations. In February 2023, the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua while speaking during a church service in Ruai said that him and the president will continue to commit to God for as long as they lead , adding that they will not miss a single service.

“I was reading the papers this morning and they were saying that this is our 28th Church Service since we came into office. I want to save them the task of counting… we will be in Church for 52 Sundays per year for the next five years,” Gachagua stated on February 5, 2023.

However,on Sunday, April 2, 2023, opposition fit Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party led by Raila Odinga will attend a church service at PCEA Ruiru. This is after on Saturday, April 1, 2023, Gachagua attended thanksgiving prayers at Silungai Primary School, Malava Constituency in Kakamega County in company of other leaders including Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
