Raila Odinga has revealed he asked for the ID cards to be issued for free.
Earlier this week, Kipchumba Murkomen launched the exercise where he announced that there would be no charges in order to be issued with ID cards. This comes after Ruto had pledged to work closely with Raila to enhance the developments of Kenya. Murkomen used the exercise to add that no Kenyan should feel discriminated against at all when trying to get a government service.
Speaking during a Ramadhan event, Raila Odinga said he asked for the fees to be removed. “Muslims in Kibera have been discriminated against for years. If you want an ID, look for your father’s and grandfather’s IDs so that you can get registered as a Kenyan. We fought so hard so we can have the requirement removed. I heard people saying that Ruto has made a mistake by stating that people should be given ID cards. Judging people by stating that they are not fully Kenyans is discrimination.I said that they should be given ID cards because they’re Kenyans,” he said.
