Raila Odinga Honored at 80, Hailed as African Leader

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga marked his 80th birthday today, January 7, 2025, with an outpouring of goodwill from Kenyans and political leaders. Born on January 7, 1945, in Maseno, Raila is the son of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Juma Odinga.

Supporters, politicians, and citizens took to social media to celebrate the milestone. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party conveyed its best wishes, praying for God’s blessings and success in Raila’s endeavors.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris lauded Raila as a remarkable statesman whose dedication to Kenya has inspired generations. Passaris also wished him success in his bid for the African Union Commission Chair, with elections slated for February 2025. “Your vision and dedication to serving Africa are commendable. May you achieve all your aspirations; the continent eagerly awaits your leadership,” she said.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna expressed heartfelt wishes, saying, “Happy Birthday Baba Raila Odinga. Kila la heri mwaka huu na ubarikiwe siku zote za maisha yako.” Senator Hamida Kibwana described Raila as a visionary leader whose commitment to Kenya continues to inspire.
