President William Ruto has officially awarded a charter to Riara University at State House, Nairobi, marking its recognition as a fully accredited higher learning institution in Kenya.
This charter, granted under the guidance of the Commission for University Education (CUE), signifies that Riara University has met the rigorous standards required to operate independently and award its own degrees. The university, founded in 2012 by Daniel and Eddah Gachukia, had previously operated under a Letter of Interim Authority from the CUE.
This milestone elevates Riara to the ranks of Kenya’s fully accredited universities, affirming its commitment to quality education, research, and community impact. The ceremony also highlighted the founders’ contributions, with both receiving the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) award from President Ruto.
In his statement, President William Ruto affirmed his commitment to supporting the education system in Kenya to bring transformation across the country.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting universities and other levels of higher education. We will continue investing in transformative policies that turn our universities into hubs of research, innovation, and excellence,” he said.
