President Ruto Pledges Millions in Rewards as CHAN Kicks Off Today

As the African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off today, August 2nd, in Kenya, President William Ruto has unveiled an ambitious reward scheme to boost morale and drive performance for the national team, Harambee Stars.

In a show of strong government backing for the squad, the President has pledged significant financial incentives tied to each stage of the tournament:

  • KSh1 million per player for every win
  • KSh500,000 per player for a draw
  • KSh60 million for reaching the quarterfinals
  • KSh70 million for a semifinal finish
  • A monumental KSh600 million bonus if Kenya wins the CHAN tournament

The announcement underscores Kenya’s ambition as both host nation and contender, with the President calling on the Harambee Stars to rise to the occasion and make history on home soil.

Speaking after having a breakfast with the team players, Ruto described the competitions as the biggest moment for kenyans motivating the players describing them as the hopes of a nation.

Ruto added that Kenyans are promising a commitment to match their effort with recognition and reward.

The CHAN tournament, which features national teams composed solely of players who play in their country’s domestic leagues, marks a historic moment for Kenya, hosting a major continental football event for the first time in over 40 years.
