Kalonzo Musyoka Mourns Utumishi Girls Academy Fire Victims, Calls for Urgent Action

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has joined Kenyans in mourning the victims of the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, calling for urgent action to prevent similar tragedies in schools.

In a statement, Musyoka expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives in the devastating incident, describing the victims as girls full of dreams, full of promise, full of life.

“With a heart weighed down by profound grief, I join all Kenyans in mourning the precious lives of the young girls taken from us in the devastating fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil,” he said.

The former Vice President said the tragedy had left families shattered, adding that the country stands in solidarity with those affected.

“To the bereaved families: there are no words adequate for this moment. I stand with you, and I hold you in my heart and in my prayers,” Musyoka stated.

He also conveyed his message to injured students, wishing them a swift and full recovery while expressing hope that they would feel the support of the nation during their healing process.

Musyoka further challenged political leaders to ensure that prayers and condolences are followed by concrete measures aimed at protecting learners and strengthening safety standards in schools. Speaking as political leaders gathered for the National Prayer Breakfast, he urged them not to let today’s prayers end with hopelessness but instead translate them into urgent and decisive action.

“As leaders, we will be judged not by what we said in prayer this morning, but by what we did for the least of these in the days that follow,” he added.

He called on the country to honour the victims not only through tributes and mourning, but through actions that ensure no other family experiences similar pain.
