Police are currently conducting an investigation into a disturbing incident involving the murder of a 71-year-old woman in a village located in Nyandarua. The victim, Lucy Muthoni Niema, had been reported missing on June 14 and was tragically discovered deceased nearly a week later. Her body was found inside a sack in the Kigumo river on Monday. To prevent the body from floating, a large stone had been placed in the bag alongside it.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities observed that the body had already started decomposing. Niema had visible deep cuts on her forehead and right ear, suggesting that she may have been killed elsewhere before being concealed in the sack and deposited in the river. The motive behind the murder remains unknown at this point in the investigation.
Following her disappearance, Niema’s family reported the matter to the police, triggering a search for her. Now that her body has been recovered, it has been transferred to the mortuary for further examination and autopsy, as the police continue their inquiries into the case.
In a separate incident in Mogotio, Baringo County, another tragic incident unfolded. A primary school teacher named Leolinda Jeruto Tarus, who also worked as a Junior Secondary School teacher, was killed during a domestic altercation in her residence at Tian Primary School. Neighbors reported hearing a disturbance coming from Tarus’ house on Tuesday. They encountered the victim’s husband fleeing the scene, wielding a blood-stained kitchen knife.
Inside the house, they discovered Tarus’ lifeless body lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained stab wounds to her chest and stomach. The perpetrator managed to escape on foot, and law enforcement is currently searching for him. The motive behind this violent attack is yet to be determined, and the victim’s body has been moved to a mortuary for further investigation.
Both cases have left the communities shocked and grieving as authorities work diligently to gather evidence and shed light on the circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents.
