Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has issued a stern warning to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, threatening to spearhead his removal from office if he continues engaging in politics and fails to protect citizens.
This follows a chaotic incident at PCEA Kasarani East Church on Sunday, where goons allegedly disrupted a service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The MP, addressing a press conference, criticised the police for failing to prevent the attack and accused IG Kanja of politicising his role.
“How can you attend a rally in Nyeri but fail to protect worshippers in Kasarani?” Mule questioned. “You either style up or we initiate a process to remove you.”
He demanded a full investigation into the attack and called on Kanja to identify and prosecute those responsible for sending the youths to disrupt the service.
Condemning the incident, Mule insisted that the church must remain a sacred space protected under the Constitution. “Kenyans have a right to worship without interference,” he stated, urging all security agencies to fulfill their constitutional duties.
During the chaos, security officers linked to Gachagua reportedly fired in the air to disperse rowdy youths, who were allegedly demanding payment for attending the event.
Gachagua, visibly upset, accused President Ruto of orchestrating the attack. “You’ve sent goons to Limuru, Nyeri, and now to a church. This is a new low,” he said.
The incident has sparked national outrage, with MPs closely watching the police’s next steps as tensions rise over growing political interference in security matters.
