Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has officially secured full registration for his newly formed political outfit, the National Economic Development Party (NEDP).
The milestone was confirmed on Tuesday at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) headquarters in Nairobi, where Sonko was issued the Certificate of Full Registration. The registration marks NEDP’s formal entry into Kenya’s political landscape, clearing the party to participate in national electoral processes, field candidates, and undertake political mobilization across the country.
A visibly excited Sonko expressed gratitude to the Registrar’s office and his supporters, noting that the certification was a major step toward building what he described as a people-centered political movement focused on economic empowerment.Sonko further emphasized that NEDP will prioritize job creation, youth empowerment, and equitable economic development, saying the party seeks to provide alternative leadership rooted in transparency and grassroots engagement.
The Registrar of Political Parties, through its officials, confirmed that NEDP met all the legal requirements under the Political Parties Act, including national presence, membership thresholds, and adherence to internal governance structures.
With its registration now complete, NEDP is expected to begin nationwide recruitment drives and unveil its leadership framework, policy agenda, and strategic roadmap ahead of upcoming political activities.
