Aldai Member of Parliament Marianne Kitany has threatened to file a censure motion against Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of undermining the government he serves. Speaking on Tuesday, January 14, Kitany called for Muturi’s resignation after his public criticism of the government regarding a spate of abductions.
“CS Justin Muturi should resign. He cannot critique a government of which he is a part; it simply isn’t possible. If he does not resign, I will sponsor a censure motion against him in parliament,” Kitany stated.
A close ally of President William Ruto, Kitany criticized Muturi for addressing the issue through the media instead of raising it in Cabinet. She argued that public commentary on such matters was ineffective and inappropriate for a senior government official.
“Cabinet is the highest decision-making body in Kenya. Justin Muturi should have sought answers there concerning his son’s abduction, not through the media,” Kitany said.
Muturi’s remarks during a press briefing on Sunday, January 12, at Serena Hotel, sparked controversy. He revealed that his son was abducted in June during anti-government protests, expressing frustration at the lack of response from security agencies.
“One of the things we accused the past regime of was abductions and disappearances. Today, the situation persists. My son’s abduction made us anxious, yet no answers have been provided,” Muturi said.
Kitany dismissed his public outcry, emphasizing that as a Cabinet member, he had the platform to address such issues internally.
The incident has ignited debate about governance and accountability, signaling potential cracks within the administration.
