Labour CS Mutua Under Fire Over Kazi Majuu Recruitment Concerns

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua is facing renewed scrutiny from Members of Parliament who are demanding transparency over the ongoing government-led overseas job placement initiative, Kazi Majuu.

The MPs have called on the CS to publish a full list of authorized recruitment agencies and to intensify a nationwide public awareness campaign to protect Kenyan job seekers from fraud and exploitation.

The demands come in the wake of growing concerns over alleged bias and irregularities in the recruitment process for jobs in Qatar. Lawmakers questioned why a disproportionate number of candidates shortlisted during the Kazi Majuu exercise held in November and December 2024 were from Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties, regions closely associated with Mutua.

Parliamentarians are also pushing the Labour Ministry to explain how the selection of candidates was conducted and what measures are in place to ensure fairness and regional balance. Additionally, they raised alarms over the continued exploitation of desperate job seekers by unauthorized agents who demand payment for fake opportunities abroad.

The MPs insist that urgent intervention is necessary to restore public confidence in the programme and to uphold the integrity of government employment initiatives. They are calling for Mutua to take immediate action to ensure transparency, accountability, and equity in future recruitments.
